Wayne MIyata’s ceramic artwork sits atop Hall of Compassion in Lāwaʻi<\/span> Valley, Kauaʻi<\/span>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On September 6, the Lāwaʻi<\/span> International Center’s<\/a> Hall of Compassion was completed with an artistically designed ceramic artwork provided by Kauaʻi<\/span> Community College<\/a> art faculty Wayne Miyata<\/strong>. With the help of a crane and a specially rigged lifting device, Miyata and volunteers gently installed the huge ceramic ball on the hall’s roof.<\/p>\n

The placement of the sacred ball represents the final phase of bringing to reality a structure that represents the connection of earth and heaven.<\/p>\n

Miyata, who recently retired as head of Kauaʻi<\/span> CC<\/abbr>’s ceramic program, currently lectures at the college. He is world renowned for his artwork and has held numerous exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

Materials for the Hall of Compassion<\/a> were prepared and shipped from Japan and the structure was constructed without using nails. The project was carefully overseen by architect Nobuyuki Yamamoto, one of the last temple building masters in Japan.<\/p>\n
