The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Maui College graduate competed in a knockout round on April 15.<\/p>\n<p>In a contrast of styles, <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span> chose to sing <em>The Voice<\/em> coach John Legend\u2019s ballad &ldquo;All of Me&rdquo; to battle teammate Maddi Jane and her rendition of Dua Lipa\u2019s &ldquo;New Rules.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195909\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-195909\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/maui-kawaa-the-voice-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Kamalei Kawaa singing\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-195909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/maui-kawaa-the-voice-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/maui-kawaa-the-voice-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/maui-kawaa-the-voice.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-195909\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kamalei <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span> appears on The Voice. (Photo credit: <abbr>NBC<\/abbr>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to <abbr>NBC<\/abbr> Insider, &ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span> honed the song during rehearsals with Jane, Coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/nbc-insider\/people\/chance-the-rapper\">Chance the Rapper<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/nbc-insider\/the-voice-season-25-mega-mentor-keith-urban\">Season 25 Mega Mentor Keith Urban<\/a>. &lsquo;To hear a John song not feel like John is such a huge feat,&rsquo; Chance said.&rdquo;  He also advised <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span> and Jane to sing like one of the other coaches would be &ldquo;stupid to not steal me.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>After <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span>\u2019s sweet soulful rendition of &ldquo;All of Me,&rdquo; Legend thanked him for singing his song.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m known for being a bit tough on people covering my songs, but I was just really into your version, it was beautiful,&rdquo; Legend said. &ldquo;The whole demeanor with which you carry yourself, with gratitude in your spirit, we feel that and it comes through in your voice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"blocklink\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2024\/03\/05\/uh-maui-college-kawaa-on-the-voice\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Maui College grad gets two-chair turn on <em>The Voice<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>After agonizing a while, Chance chose Jane over <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span>. Legend was quick to hit his red steal button, and coach Reba McEntire\u2014who was moved to tears by <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span>\u2019s performance\u2014hit hers.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The greatest singers in the world sometimes don\u2019t touch my heart, but you\u2019ve got a big heart, and you share it with people,&rdquo; McEntire said, although <span aria-label=\"Kawaa\">Kawa&#699;a<\/span> chose to continue on with Team Legend.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Voice<\/em> now moves into the playoffs, where coaches select players to advance to live
