This week\u2019s UH<\/abbr> News<\/em> Images of the Week are from UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa’s Kennedy Theatre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2024 marks the centennial anniversary of the first known English-language kabuki ever performed in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, which started at UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. To celebrate the milestone, Kennedy Theatre presents The Maiden Benten and the Bandits of the White Waves<\/em><\/a>, premiering on April 19.<\/p>\n

Ticket prices<\/a> range $8–$25 for the performances on April 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and April 28 at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

The production of five distinctive thieves with a mastery of masquerade and captures schemes and back stories that lead to shocking revelations, surprising reunions and startling twists. The 40 cast members were trained by award-winning kabuki actor Monnosuke Ichikawa VIII<\/abbr> and his two apprentices, Utaki Ichikawa and Takish\u014d Ichikawa (all three are apart of the same ‘acting family’) on campus, and the ensemble of 13 musicians was trained by esteemed Kabuki percussionist Kashiwa Senjir\u014d.<\/p>\n
