Nearly 7,100 attendees participated in the 8th annual Ellison Onizuka Day of Exploration at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2013West Oʻahu<\/span><\/a> partnered with the Boy Scouts of America, Aloha Council on April 6, showcasing family-friendly science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM<\/abbr>) workshops and activities.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event featured more than 100 interactive booths and exhibits with more than 40 workshops on robotics, coding, and renewable energy; live demonstrations; and talks from experts.<\/p>\n

Attendees learned about Hawaiian culture through participating in immersive workshops about unique flora of the islands, engaging with ʻōlelo<\/span> Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> in response to sustainability, learning how to play konane, a Hawaiian board game of strategy and reflection, and more.<\/p>\n

Onizuka Day of Exploration chair Alim Shabazz said the event, which honors the legacy of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, brought together an unprecedented array of attractions, combining the thrill of STEM<\/abbr> with the essence of Hawaiian culture.<\/p>\n
