It was also a world record attempt for a dedicated saxophone performance of the National Anthem and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Ponoi\">Pono&#699;\u012b<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-bands-saxophone-record-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"more than 150 musicians on a court\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-192438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-bands-saxophone-record-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-bands-saxophone-record-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-bands-saxophone-record.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Having all these saxophones ranging from 6th grade to 70 years old was amazing. This is a once in a lifetime performance in honor of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Bands 100 anniversary,&rdquo; said Gwen Nakamura, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa assistant director of bands and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa alumna, who also performed with the group.<\/p>\n<p>Nakamura said she plans to submit the video recording to Guinness World Records. Many of the musicians consisted of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> students and alumni.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I was excited to see so many saxophonists gather together to make music,\u201d said Hoku Matsushita, a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa 4th year music education major. &ldquo;I was glad to see that our community in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> is filled with energy and love for music.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>For the performance, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Bands partnered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hisaxfnd.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Saxophone Foundation<\/a>, a non-profit organization dedicated to raise the level of awareness and education of the saxophone in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>. Todd Yukumoto, a renowned saxophonist, alum and longtime <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa saxophone lecturer, is the organization\u2019s president.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;What we were trying to do is bring awareness to our foundation and to help celebrate 100 years for the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Bands so it was a win-win,&rdquo; Yukumoto said. &ldquo;We want to build a community of saxophone players and we\u2019re doing it slowly.
