Christopher Makoto Yogi\u2019s I Was a Simple Man<\/em> made its exclusive streaming premiere on The Criterion Channel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Until the end of February, a selection of films crafted by graduates from the School of Cinematic Arts<\/a> (SCA<\/abbr>) at the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa will take the spotlight on The Criterion Channel<\/a>. The streaming service, known for its mix of classic, contemporary, international and Hollywood films, is showcasing the work of five talented UH<\/abbr> Mānoa alumni.<\/p>\n

Curated by kanaka ʻōiwi<\/span> (Native Hawaiian) filmmaker Taylour Chang, users exploring the site can get a taste of the short films produced by SCA<\/abbr> graduates through a one minute and 30-second showcase named \u201cÂé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Shorts.”<\/a><\/p>\n

Short films<\/h2>\n

The Moon and the Night<\/em> by 2014 SCA<\/abbr> graduate Erin Lau. Lau has gone on to direct the acclaimed short films All I Ever Wanted<\/em> and Inheritance<\/em>, which was supported by Netflix and Tribeca Studios and also awarded the Best Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Short Film at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> International Film Festival (HIFF<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n

The Pit Where We Were Born<\/em>, produced by 2012 SCA<\/abbr> graduate Alexander Bocchieri. In addition to documentary and commercial work, Bocchieri has since directed The Roof<\/em><\/a>, a short film for Disney Launchpad which is now streaming on Disney+.<\/p>\n

Molokaʻi<\/span> Bound<\/em> by 2012 SCA<\/abbr> graduate Alika Maikau Tengan. Tengan has subsequently directed the feature length film, Every Day in Kaimukī<\/em><\/a>, distributed by Gravitas Ventures. A feature-length adaptation of Molokaʻi<\/span> Bound, with support from a $500,000 feature film grant from independent film distribution company ARRAY and Google, is currently in the final stages of post-production.<\/p>\n
