The <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/hawaii.edu\/careers-in-tech\/home\">Careers in Tech and Intelligence Fair<\/a> on February 9 at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Campus Center kicked off the spring 2024 events for <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/hawaii.edu\/hawaii-tech-days\/home\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Tech Days<\/a>, a series of events designed to connect high school and college students with high-demand information technology (<abbr>IT<\/abbr>) careers in local companies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-two-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"people standing and talking\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-191885\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-two-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-two-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-two.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> <abbr>IT<\/abbr> Workforce Development and Regulated Policy Lead Alan Ito, who has decades of experience in <abbr>IT<\/abbr>, said the exposure to recruiters is a vital step to landing a future career.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&#8217;s important that students interact as much as possible with <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>-based employers, especially if they plan to stay in the state after they graduate,&rdquo; Ito said. &ldquo;They need to understand what kinds of technologies local employers are using and initiatives they&#8217;re working on to better prepare them to enter the job market. They can also learn about possible internships they can participate in and what kinds of entry-level positions employers are seeking.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"people talking to each other by a desk\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-191888\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/manoa-ics-careers-in-it.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fair was co-organized by students in <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/acmmanoa.org\/\">Association for Computing Machinery<\/a>, in collaboration with the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System, Pacific Intelligence and Innovation Initiative and Chamber of Commerce Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The world after graduation is full of enrichment and opportunities, but it\u2019s difficult to know where to start without any structure. As a student, I really benefit from events that help us start to make connections and gain familiarity with the career field,&rdquo; said Liliana Royer, a senior computer science major and Association for Computing Machinery member in charge of the fair.<\/p>\n<p>Among the approximately 30 participating companies were the <abbr title=\"Federal Bureau of Investigation\">FBI<\/abbr>, National Security Agency and Hawaiian Airlines.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Association for Computing Machinery is housed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ics.hawaii.edu\/\">Information and Computer Sciences Department<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/natsci.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Natural Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Tech Days upcoming events<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Careers in <abbr>IT<\/abbr> and Cyber Fair<\/strong>, February 21, 10 a.m.&#8211;1.p.m. at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>; Campus Center Multi-Purpose Room (C-208): Part of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>&#8216;s two-day Career Fair.
