The second annual event held at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr>\u2019s flagship campus guided haum\u0101na (students), employees and the community through a wide range of immersive workshops on oli (chant), mele (song) and storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>The summit held special significance as it coincided with the 131st commemoration of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and the 8th annual <a href=\"https:\/\/dayofracialhealing.org\/\">National Day of Racial Healing<\/a>, creating a space for contemplation and connection among communities while centering <a href=\"https:\/\/wehewehe.org\/gsdl2.85\/cgi-bin\/hdict?e=q-11000-00---off-0hdict--00-1----0-10-0---0---0direct-10-ED--4--textpukuielbert%2ctextmamaka-----0-1l--11-en-Zz-1---Zz-1-home-aina--00-4-1-00-0--4----0-0-11-00-0utfZz-8-00&#038;a=d&#038;d=D471#hero-bottom-banner\">&#699;\u0101ina<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;A student reporter asked me if I could summarize the goal of the summit in one word. I said pilina; a connection or relationship to self, others, and\/or &#699;\u0101ina. And we saw and heard that over and over again happening throughout the summit. (Credit: <abbr>UHOCCE<\/abbr>\/Phil Lampron &#8211; VISTA Leader)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Reflections and tributes<\/h2>\n<p><abbr>HKHA<\/abbr>\u2019s second day encouraged participants to collectively reflect on the Hawaiian Monarchy overthrow. <span aria-label=\"Hookupu\">Ho&#699;okupu<\/span> (offerings) such as lei and oli were presented at Ke Ahu o <span aria-label=\"Kamakaeha\">Kamaka&#699;eha<\/span> (<span aria-label=\"Liliuokalani\">Lili&#699;uokalani<\/span> altar) in front of Queen <span aria-label=\"Liliuokalani\">Lili&#699;uokalani<\/span> Center for Student Services. Christopher\u2019s work emphasizes the importance of holistic healing. Both women discussed overlapping connections they see between their respective work and restoring racial, spiritual and relational healing.<\/p>\n<h2>Racial healing rooted in &#699;ike (wisdom)<\/h2>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa was one of the first ten and now one of more than 60 <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/nhpol\/trht\/\">Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Centers<\/a> (<abbr>TRHT<\/abbr>) across <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the U.S. selected to implement ambitious, visionary action plans that tackle historical and contemporary effects of racism.
