Humphrey Fellowship<\/a> Community College Residency Program (<abbr>CCRP<\/abbr>), which pairs fellows with two-year colleges to share best practices and build expertise in important fields. Through <abbr title=\"Community College Residency Program\">CCRP<\/abbr>, <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> students and employees will interact with the world-renowned scholar in environmental sustainability and advance their capacity to contribute and lead cross-border strategies to boost climate resiliency.<\/p>\n<p>Kaewmanee coordinates projects focusing on community development and agricultural reform, including transforming Thailand&#8217;s agricultural system and moving toward more sustainable agroforestry. Kaewmanee aims to contribute toward sustainable agriculture through reforestation and quality of life improvement in Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_189617\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-189617\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/kapiolani-humphrey-fellowship-first-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Community leaders at hub map\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-189617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/kapiolani-humphrey-fellowship-first-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/kapiolani-humphrey-fellowship-first-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/kapiolani-humphrey-fellowship-first-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-189617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Community leaders explore Resilience Hub mapping to identify local hub locations in Honolulu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The week-long exchange will immerse Kaewmanee in climate resilience-focused learning experiences that include attending <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> Neighborhood Board meetings, service learning and research that focuses on building resilience in <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> neighborhoods and communities through <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s partnership with the City and County of Honolulu called <a href=\"https:\/\/cerenehawaii.org\/\"><abbr>CERENE<\/abbr><\/a>, which stands for Center for Resilient Neighborhoods. <abbr>CERENE<\/abbr> has four resilience research and community projects focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/oahufoodsecurityportal.com\/\">food security<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/microgridknowledge.com\/microgrid-map-hawaiian-electric\/\">micro-grid energy storage<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cerenehawaii.org\/community-resilience-hubs\/\">community resilience hubs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cerenehawaii.org\/community-resilience\/\">community perceptions of resilience<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College\u2019s commitment to preparing its graduates as global leaders ready to succeed in an increasingly globalized workforce aligns perfectly with the <abbr>U.S<\/abbr>. Department of State and <abbr>U.S<\/abbr>. Department of Education\u2019s call for higher education institutions to invest in international opportunities,&rdquo; said Brandon Marc Higa, the principal investigator for <abbr>CCRP<\/abbr> and director of resource development. &ldquo;Kaewmanee\u2019s expertise in economics synergizes with our newly established economics pathway as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2022\/09\/16\/1m-grant-economics-pathway\/\">Transcending Barriers to Success in Economics<\/a> activities funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/new.nsf.gov\/funding\/opportunities\/epscor-research-infrastructure-improvement-program-1\">National Science Foundation<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Hubert <abbr>H<\/abbr>. Humphrey Fellowship Program enhances leadership among international professionals who collaborate to address local and global challenges.
