  {"id":18885,"date":"2013-08-07T14:30:11","date_gmt":"2013-08-08T00:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=18885"},"modified":"2021-11-22T14:22:06","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T00:22:06","slug":"uh-manoa-becomes-founding-member-of-national-public-health-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2013\/08\/07\/uh-manoa-becomes-founding-member-of-national-public-health-association\/","title":{"rendered":"<abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa becomes founding member of national public health association"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/aspph1.jpg\" alt=\"Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health logo\" width=\"200\" height=\"73\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-18884\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/\">Office of Public Health Studies<\/a> has signed on as a founding member of the newly formed Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health. <abbr>ASPPH<\/abbr> connects public health schools and programs accredited by the <a href=\"http:\/\/ceph.org\/\">Council on Education for Public Health<\/a> (<abbr>CEPH<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>Officially launched August 1, 2013, <abbr>ASPPH<\/abbr> is the successor to the Association of Schools of Public Health, which represented the 50 <abbr>CEPH<\/abbr>-accredited public health schools and eight associate members.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6210\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6210\" style=\"width: 152px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/maddock.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"152\" height=\"208\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6210\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6210\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jay Maddock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;Joining this association will help ensure that our students receive a world-class education in public health through access to the newest tools and resources and have access to fellowships only open to member institutions,&rdquo; said Director of the Office of Public Health Studies <strong>Jay Maddock<\/strong>. &ldquo;Also, our faculty will have a voice on the direction of public health education and policy nationwide and will be able to represent our unique geography and diversity.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The move to bring schools and programs under one umbrella has been embraced by both <abbr>CEPH<\/abbr>-accredited schools and programs of public health.
