The public can vote for the team on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholarsawards.com\/vote\/\">Scholars Collegiate Gaming Awards<\/a> website until November 20. The winner will be announced at an event in Las Vegas on November 28.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"blocklink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholarsawards.com\/vote\/\">Vote now for <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s esports program!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2022\/12\/14\/esports-top-collegiate-program\/\">named the 2022 best collegiate esports program<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/esportsawards.com\/\">Esports Awards<\/a>, and is one of 15 finalists this year. This is the third consecutive year that the program has been a finalist among the best collegiate esports programs in North America. The winner will be selected by an esports panel of experts (75&#37;) and public vote (25&#37;).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<abbr>UH<\/abbr> esports is leading the charge around international and global esports in the collegiate level,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s esports Program Director Nyle Sky Kauweloa. &ldquo;We have students from across our system that are doing wonderful things at each of their campuses, and so for what we\u2019re doing right now, the state should be very proud of what we\u2019ve accomplished, not only in the fact that we attract very dedicated and excited students to the collegiate esports program, but we\u2019re also establishing partnerships both domestically in the United States but also partnerships in East Asia.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Program accomplishments<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_186957\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-186957\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-esports-team-practicing-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"people on computers\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-186957\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-esports-team-practicing-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-esports-team-practicing-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-esports-team-practicing.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-186957\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> students practice at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa iLab.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa esports has skyrocketed since it began in 2019, becoming the first higher education institution to host professional Overwatch League events. Among its major accomplishments over the past year, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Apex Legends team has become one of the top in the nation. The program sent several students to intern in South Korea with Gen.G, one of the largest esports companies in the world. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa has placed a major emphasis on the Women of Esports organization, which was created to increase inclusion in the esports program, and has launched a new team for the game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We put all this time into the program and to having our work shown, and people appreciate it,&rdquo; said Tuan Jr. Pham, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Valorant team lead. &ldquo;It seems really cool and really fun to see how the program\u2019s expanding.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Madeline Gilbert, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa esports player support coordinator, added, &ldquo;We\u2019re really one massive team here so it\u2019s not the individuals, it\u2019s not leadership, it\u2019s all of us working together. And I think everyone deserves it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> esports receives substantial funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/acmsystem.hawaii.edu\/\">Academy for Creative Media System<\/a>.
