Free training for Maui residents and companies needing to upskill their teams for the wildfire recovery effort will be held October 2–6, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. at the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Maui College<\/a> campus.<\/p>\n

The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER<\/abbr>) training prepares cleanup and emergency response workers to operate safely during a variety of scenarios involving hazardous substances. This training covers policies, practices and procedures that reduce the risk of injury and illness related to harmful exposures on the worksite.<\/p>\n

This training is part of the Good Jobs Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> initiative offering free job training and other online programs through the UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges<\/a>. These trainings will provide opportunities for Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> residents to upskill and earn industry credentials in the healthcare, skilled trades and technology industries, which will lead to employment, paid internships and apprenticeship pathways.<\/p>\n

In order to be eligible, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a resident of the State of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and eligible to work in the U.S. Additionally, applicants must be employed as a site worker or manager\/supervisor with potential exposure to hazardous substances required to have HAZWOPER<\/abbr> 40-hour certification for Maui wildfire response in the State of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and must complete the Good Jobs Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> On-Boarding Form<\/a>. There is also an application for the course<\/a> (use code HAZ<\/abbr>-1023).<\/p>\n

UH<\/abbr> Maui College also plans to schedule the following courses this fall:<\/p>\n
