Future teachers are encouraged to apply for nearly $1 million in scholarship stipends available through the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa College of Education<\/a> (COE<\/abbr>) for the spring 2024 semester. Recipients will be part of the seventh cohort of the Grow Our Own<\/a> (GOO<\/abbr>) Teachers Initiative.<\/p>\n

GOO<\/abbr> stipends are available for students who have been admitted into COE<\/abbr>\u2019s bachelor in elementary education and Hawaiian language immersion and master of education in teaching programs (MEdT<\/abbr>) for fall 2023, and for students who are applying to the post-baccalaureate certificate in elementary education and post-baccalaureate certificate in secondary education programs for spring 2024.<\/p>\n

“I have worked in education for over 10 years in a variety of support positions,” said Renee Rivette, 2022 MEdT<\/abbr> admit and 2023 GOO<\/abbr> recipient. “The GOO<\/abbr> program funding has allowed me to continue my education and take the next step in a career that I am passionate about, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”<\/p>\n

Priority is given to applicants who are Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Education (HIDOE<\/abbr>) employees (emergency hires, substitutes, educational assistants) in secondary and elementary school settings and those seeking licensure in HIDOE<\/abbr> Federal Teacher Shortage Areas (English; English as second language; Hawaiian immersion, knowledge, language or studies; mathematics; science; world languages). Applicants who are not HIDOE<\/abbr> employees or seeking licensure in shortage areas are still eligible and encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n
