U.S.<\/abbr> Sen.<\/abbr> Mazie K. Hirono took time out on her recent visit to Kauaʻi<\/span> to learn about the research the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> (CTAHR<\/abbr>) is conducting on the Garden Isle.<\/p>\n

CTAHR<\/abbr> Cooperative Extension agents, specialists and Associate Dean and Director for Cooperative Extension Jeremy Elliott-Engel gave the senator a tour of the Kauaʻi<\/span> Agricultural Research Center.<\/p>\n

Elliott-Engel and CTAHR<\/abbr>\u2019s Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State 4-H<\/abbr> program<\/a> presented Hirono with a framed “4-H<\/abbr> Grows Here” sign to express their gratitude for her support. Hirono was recognized as the 2023 Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> 4-H<\/abbr> Aliʻi<\/span> recipient at its annual ʻAhaʻōlelo<\/span> Conference on July 22.<\/p>\n

“We were honored to host Sen.<\/abbr> Hirono at our Agriculture Experiment Station on Kauaʻi<\/span>,” said Elliott-Engel. “These facilities are essential for ensuring food security in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>. We appreciate the chance to personally showcase the opportunities—as well as challenges—we have in agriculture research, innovation and extension efforts.”<\/p>\n
