The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> will showcase the Honolulu New Painting Invitational Exhibition<\/em> at The Art Gallery through October 22.<\/p>\n

This survey of painters in the 4,200-square-foot main art gallery is an unprecedented exhibition embodying the diversity and energy of contemporary painting in Honolulu today.<\/p>\n

The exhibit affirms the commitment to living art and the ever-changing and resilient metropolitan Honolulu art community. It includes themes of ecological crisis, sublime natural beauty, urban blight, colonial history, stymied supply chains and the cultural complexities and contradictions that characterize contemporary Honolulu.<\/p>\n

Debra Drexler, UH<\/abbr> Mānoa painting professor and acting gallery director, said, “The work does not come to easy closure, but is guided by experimentation and risk.”<\/p>\n

John Koga, one of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>‘s most established contemporary artists, wrote “Having had the pleasure of being immersed in Honolulu\u2019s culinary, music, fashion, dance and visual arts community, I have met passionate creatives in their respective fields. This painting exhibition showcases some of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s best artists and mentors to our next generation.”<\/p>\n

This exhibition is curated by Drexler, Koga and Maika Pollack.<\/p>\n
