The latest investments align with the Honolulu-based Native Hawaiian Organization\u2019s mission to aloha <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span> (love the homeland) by supporting the teaching and preservation of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s lands and oceans.<\/p>\n<p>The new gifts from the <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation create opportunities for <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maoorganicfarms.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"MAO\">MA&#699;O<\/span> Farms<\/a> on the Leeward Coast and for <a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward Community College<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/hookuaaina.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hookuaaina\">Ho&#699;okua&#699;&#257;ina<\/span><\/a> in Windward <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We feel it\u2019s important not only that the young men and women of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> have the skills they need to be effective leaders, but that they have the competencies our communities need for a sustainable future,&rdquo; said <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation Executive Director Kimo Bacon. &ldquo;We hope that many lives will be improved through our partnership, and we will keep our <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> moving forward.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The three recently funded programs are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>: <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation Sustainable Food Systems Scholarship<\/li>\n<li>Leeward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>: <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span> Moku Summer Bridge<\/li>\n<li>Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>: <a href=\"https:\/\/hookuaaina.org\/asa\/\"><span aria-label=\"Ahupuaa\">Ahupua&#699;a<\/span> Systems Apprenticeships<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation has supported other <abbr>UH<\/abbr> programs, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges<\/a>\u2019 Online Associate in Arts Degree Program, the <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a> Ka Haka <span aria-label=\"Ula\">&#699;Ula<\/span> O <span aria-label=\"Keelikolani\">Ke&#699;elik&#333;lani<\/span> College of Hawaiian Language, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.hawaii.edu\/welcome\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a> Digital Bus Program and scholarships for <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> students transferring to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a>, as well as students enrolled in <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s Electronics Technology program.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are grateful for <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation\u2019s innovative system-wide approach to giving,&rdquo;
