Their start was delayed by a week because of the devastating impact of the Maui wildfires. <\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College has already been helping the community there to heal. The campus has turned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/16\/fema-sba-disaster-recovery-center-uh-maui-college\/\">Student Lounge into a Disaster Recovery Center<\/a>, housing a FEMA assistance location, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the American Red Cross, all to help Maui residents. The college\u2019s <span aria-label=\"Paina\">P&#257;&#699;ina<\/span> Building has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/10\/uh-maui-college-food-preparation-hub-amidst-wildfire-tragedy\/\">served as a food preparation hub since August 10<\/a>, feeding thousands of displaced residents every day.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"blocklink\">More on how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/10\/how-to-help-maui-ohana-affected-by-wildfires\/\">help Maui <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/tag\/maui-wildfires\/\">Maui wildfires<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/29\/maui-nui-strong-uh-maui-college-strong\/\">August 26 column in The <em>Maui News<\/em><\/a>, Chancellor Lui Hokoana wrote: &ldquo;Like everyone on Maui, I and the entire staff, faculty and administration of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Maui College are mourning the tragic loss of life, livelihoods, property and the whole of the historic town of Lahaina.
