The world\u2019s most promising doctoral students in the field of accounting gathered at the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa for the third annual Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Accounting Research Doctoral Institute<\/a> (HARDI<\/abbr>), June 2–20.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Shidler College of Business<\/a>, the three-week consortium offered the opportunity for participants to develop and exchange research inquiries; obtain insight into the future of accounting research; discuss, share and develop novel research ideas; prepare research papers; form conferences; and meet with other PhD<\/abbr> candidates from top-tier schools.<\/p>\n

Only 25 are selected each year through a nomination process from the best accounting programs around the globe. In addition to Shidler students, this past meeting included students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, University of Oregon, University of Hong Kong, Seoul National University, Copenhagen Business School and the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester.<\/p>\n

“The objective of HARDI<\/abbr> is to influence the future of accounting research,” said Hamid Pourjalali, conference co-chair, professor of accounting and director of the School of Accountancy<\/a>. “In addition to current research in explaining accounting practices, accounting researchers will help shape the future of accounting practices.”<\/p>\n

In addition to the PhD<\/abbr> candidates, four of the most influential accounting researchers participated in the event: John Campbell from the University of Georgia, Mark Bradshaw from Boston College, Michelle Hanlon from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Clive Lennox from the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n

Next year\u2019s HARDI<\/abbr> is slated for June 2024, and the UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa hosted Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Accounting Research Conference<\/a> is scheduled for January 3–5.<\/p>\n
