The Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> International Film Festival<\/a> (HIFF<\/abbr>) and the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Academy for Creative Media<\/a> (ACM<\/abbr>) System announced the inaugural HIFFxACM<\/abbr> Accelerator<\/a>, a yearlong program beginning summer 2023. This partnership provides all students across the university\u2019s 10 campuses access to cinema and media mentorship, networking, filmmaker visits to classes at various UH<\/abbr> campuses and a complimentary HIFF<\/abbr>43 pass. The HIFF<\/abbr>43 pass welcomes students to all films and events at the anchor festival, free film screenings at the new UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> campus, and additional educational opportunities.<\/p>\n

“This is an important opportunity for HIFF<\/abbr> to continue our indelible work building the future of the film industry in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> through increased involvement in supporting the careers of our emerging creators. We are grateful for the vision the UH<\/abbr> ACM<\/abbr> system leadership, administrators, and professors that are building inroads for students to access the local and international creative industry,” said HIFF<\/abbr> Executive Director Beckie Stocchetti.<\/p>\n

Through the HIFFxACM<\/abbr> Accelerator, ACM<\/abbr> students will access increased awareness of career opportunities within the media field and hands-on experience tied to HIFF<\/abbr>, the only statewide film festival in the U.S., and the only Academy Award qualifying film festival with a focus on Native Hawaiian-Pacific Islander content. Opportunities such as the Cinema and Media Mentor connection and the HIFF<\/abbr> Metaverse for students will allow students the chance to interface with industry professionals and network beyond their immediate community.<\/p>\n

“When we started ACM<\/abbr> at UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa over 20 years ago, one of our first priorities was securing a relationship with the globally-recognized Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> International Film Festival to showcase our first ACM<\/abbr> narrative short films from early students like Ty Sanga and Christopher Yogi,” said ACM<\/abbr> System Founder and Director Chris Lee. “Now, with ACM<\/abbr> System supporting 16 programs at all 10 UH<\/abbr> campuses, we are thrilled to expand that partnership by helping to bring HIFF<\/abbr> programming to multiple ACM<\/abbr> campuses across the island chain and offering HIFF<\/abbr> passes to all ACM<\/abbr> students and faculty among many other benefits. In particular, I want to thank HIFF<\/abbr> Director Beckie Stocchetti and HIFF<\/abbr> Artistic Director Anderson Le for their longtime support for ACM<\/abbr> System and in crafting the HIFFxACM<\/abbr> Accelerator.”<\/p>\n

HIFF<\/abbr>\u2019s mission is to bring the best in international cinema to Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, and to advance the understanding and cultural exchange among the people of Asia, the Pacific and North America through the medium of film. The primary objective for HIFFxACM<\/abbr> Accelerator is to educate and empower Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s college students through unique programming that is designed to improve both their cultural and visual literacy while building connections with industry experts from around the world.<\/p>\n
