University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> student-athletes were honored on April 24, at the fifth annual student-athlete academic honors reception. A total of 105 student-athletes across UH<\/abbr> Hilo\u2019s 12 varsity sports received recognition for achieving a cumulative GPA<\/abbr> of at least 3.3.<\/p>\n

Fifth-year graduate student Olivia Jarvis<\/strong> from the women’s cross country<\/a> team served as the scholar-athlete speaker. Jarvis earned a bachelor of science in environmental science<\/a> in spring 2022 and is currently working toward a master of science in tropical conservation biology and environmental science<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Our coaches teach us on the field, court and trails, but we can’t forget about all the teachers in the classroom and the professors and faculty who support us in our academic journeys,” said Jarvis. “I’d like to thank you for teaching us with passion and love for your subjects, providing helpful resources for all students, responding to our emails, working with us while we are away competing, being patient with our chaotic lives and our brains, being our mentors and offering wisdom and providing us with many opportunities we could not have earned without you.”<\/p>\n

In addition to Director of Athletics Patrick Guillen<\/strong> and Chancellor Bonnie D. Irwin<\/strong>, recently appointed director of the College of Business and Economics and men’s soccer assistant coach Todd Inouye<\/strong> also gave an address at the reception.<\/p>\n
