University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa softball<\/a> catcher Izabella Martinez<\/strong> earned her first career Big West Field Player of the Week award after leading UH<\/abbr> with a .700 batting average in three games against California Polytechnic State University, April 7–8 in San Luis Obispo, California.<\/p>\n

Martinez, a sophomore, went 7-for-10 at the plate to help the Rainbow Wahine win two of three last week. She recorded a career-high three hits in the first and third games. Two of her seven hits went for extra bases with a double and a solo home run. On defense, the catcher threw out two Cal Poly runners trying to steal second in the series.<\/p>\n

Martinez leads UH<\/abbr> overall with a .373 batting average. She has a team-best 38 hits, seven doubles and is second on the team with 27 RBI<\/abbr>. In conference play, she is ranked top on the team with a .444 batting average. Martinez also leads the Big West and is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA<\/abbr> with just three strikeouts in 102 at-bats.<\/p>\n

Martinez is the second Rainbow Wahine to be voted Big West Field Player of the Week, joining Mya’Liah Bethea<\/strong> who received the honor on February 20<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host UC<\/abbr> Riverside, April 14–15, at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.<\/p>\n
