The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/ecefunding\/hawaii-early-childhood-educator-stipend\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Early Childhood Educator Tuition Stipend Program<\/a> was created by the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Education<\/a> (<abbr>COE<\/abbr>) and State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/earlylearning.hawaii.gov\/we-support-early-childhood\/we-support-our-workforce\/early-childhood-educator-stipend-program\/\">Executive Office on Early Learning<\/a> (<abbr>EOEL<\/abbr>), in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/snandmarycastlefdn.org\">Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Graduate <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> Programs in the <abbr>COE<\/abbr> Department of Curriculum Studies are coordinating the systemwide stipend application process, including administering awards and collecting data on the workforce related to the stipends, in collaboration with <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> preparation program faculty on seven <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses. Assistant Specialist and Graduate <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> Programs Director <strong>Robyn Chun<\/strong>; Project Manager <strong>LaurieAnn Takeno<\/strong>; and Graduate <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> Programs Coordinator <strong>Jaime Lum<\/strong> will oversee the stipend program application process.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is one of many early childhood education workforce development partnerships that the college is engaged in with the <abbr>EOEL<\/abbr>,&rdquo; Chun said. &ldquo;This is part of a larger initiative to develop comprehensive systems of workforce financial support for early childhood educators who are frequently amongst the lower paid wage earners and, as a result, find it difficult to pursue an education.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Eligible students must be enrolled in <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> generalist certificates, degrees or license programs on one of seven <abbr>UH<\/abbr> system campuses; maintain a C or better in coursework; and work in a position in the early learning system as described in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitol.hawaii.gov\/hrscurrent\/vol05_ch0261-0319\/HRS0302L\/HRS_0302L-0002.htm\">HRS \u00a7302L-2<\/a> for two years after matriculation.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/FHGD75Y\">stipend application<\/a> is now open. Deadlines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Summer 2023 tuition&#8211;application due April 15, 2023<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2023 tuition&#8211;application due July 15, 2023<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2024 tuition&#8211;application due December 1, 2023<\/li>\n<li>Summer 2024 tuition&#8211;application due April 15, 2024<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Funding the future of <abbr>ECE<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p>Unlike other education students, <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> majors do not have a sustained source of publicly funded tuition stipends. This urged the Graduate <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> Programs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/ecefunding\/\">develop a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System website<\/a> with content to assist students and practitioners in the <abbr>ECE<\/abbr> workforce. This funding is vital to addressing the early learning workforce crisis in all sectors, including post-COVID workforce child care settings, Native Hawaiian culture-based and Hawaiian Language Medium early learning programs, and in Public Pre-K expansion proposed in <abbr title=\"lieutenant governor\">Lt.
