is a multimedia project that will feature videos with Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners and a live event where the audience will be offered an intimate portrayal of cultural practitioners\u2019 everyday lives integrating <span aria-label=\"moolelo\">mo&#699;olelo<\/span> (stories), arts, pedagogies and cultural protocol.<\/p>\n<p>The project is led by <strong>Masahide Kato<\/strong>, associate professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/academics\/degrees\/social-sciences\/political-science\/\">political science<\/a>, in collaboration with <strong>Kealani Cook<\/strong>, associate professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/academics\/degrees\/humanities\/history\/\">history<\/a>, and <strong>Kawena Komeiji<\/strong>, Hawaiian Pacific Resources librarian at the <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/library\/\">James &#38; Abigail Campbell Library<\/a>, with support from Chancellor <strong>Maenette Benham<\/strong>\u2019s office and the <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/ires\/\">Institute for Research &#38; Engaged Scholarship<\/a> (<abbr>IRES<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is an opportunity to not only research the life stories of cultural practitioners, but it\u2019s also a valuable way to get that research back into the community almost immediately through digital technology,&rdquo; said <strong>Lea Lani Kinikini<\/strong>, director of <abbr>IRES<\/abbr>. &ldquo;The Academy for Creative Media (<abbr>ACM<\/abbr>) facilities at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> have made this community-based research really engaging to our students and their &#699;ohana.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The project features the life stories of Uncle Shad Kane and Kumu Page Chang as a living embodiment of <span aria-label=\"Moo\">Mo&#699;o<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Olelo\">&#699;&#332;lelo<\/span>&#8212;cosmogony, history, and cosmology&#8212;that connects us with the ancient past to navigate the future,&rdquo; said Kato, the project facilitator.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next year, student filmmakers will work to document the life stories of cultural practitioners, then the project will culminate with a live community film event and screening at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> <abbr>ACM<\/abbr> outdoor theater in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Council for the Humanities has served our community for 50 years, supporting the programs that strengthen and perpetuate <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s cultural heritage,&rdquo;
