Ola Ka <span aria-label=\"I\">&#699;&#298;<\/span> is a series of free Hawaiian language fairs spearheaded by the organization Kanaeokana which features <span aria-label=\"hookuku\">ho&#699;ok&#363;k&#363;<\/span> <span aria-label=\"haiolelo\">ha&#699;i&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (speech competition), games and crafts for the entire <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tammy <span aria-label=\"Hailiopua\">Haili&#699;&#333;pua<\/span> Baker<\/strong>, director of the Hawaiian Theatre Program, and her haum&#257;na have participated in two fairs so far this month, the most recent on Maui. &ldquo;I hope that sharing our <span aria-label=\"moolelo\">mo&#699;olelo<\/span> and artistic practice at Ola ka <span aria-label=\"I\">&#699;&#298;<\/span> inspires our community to continue to embrace our language as a source for deeper understanding of our culture and history,&rdquo; Baker said.<\/p>\n<p>The nationally-recognized program screens a film version of its on-stage production, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2019\/09\/23\/aua-ia-kennedy\/\"><em><span aria-label=\"Aua\">&#699;Au&#699;a<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Ia\">&#699;Ia:<\/span> Holding On<\/em><\/a> followed by a panel discussion. Under Baker\u2019s guidance, the program has catapulted into a cascading spotlight on both local and national levels. The addition of the program\u2019s doctoral degree comes on the heels of the recent launch of <span aria-label=\"Ahahui\">&#699;Ahahui<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Noii\">Noi&#699;i<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Noeau\">No&#699;eau<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Oiwi\">&#699;&#332;iwi<\/span>-Research Institute of Indigenous Performance. The newly established institute is geared toward compiling academic research, curriculum development and community outreach to promote the field of Hawaiian and Indigenous performance.<\/p>\n<p>As Baker and her students gear up for this Saturday\u2019s presentation, they aspire to ignite a spark within some n&#257; pua (youth) to consider pursuing a growing avenue of Hawaiian language that fuses storytelling and performing arts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Ola Ka <span aria-label=\"I\">&#699;&#298;<\/span> events reflects the growth of our Hawaiian language community.
