Former University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> football player Kelly McGill<\/strong> is the recipient of the 2022 K\u0101ne Fernandez Award, presented by the UH<\/abbr> Letterwinners Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McGill received his award during halftime at the men’s basketball game, Saturday, February 11, at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.<\/p>\n

McGill was a starting offensive lineman for the 1992 Western Athletic Conference and Holiday Bowl champion football team. The team celebrated its 30th anniversary last year with a reunion weekend of events coordinated by McGill and a few of his teammates. The highlight was the on-field recognition of the 1992 team during the football game and the 1992 team\u2019s presentation of a three-foot specially carved and blessed K\u012b\u02bbi (tiki statue) to this year’s football team.<\/p>\n

The UH<\/abbr> Letterwinners Club presents the award annually to a past letterwinner who has volunteered unselfishly to further advance the community. The award is named for the late K\u0101ne Fernandez, chairman and chief executive office of Fernandez Entertainment, who passed away in 2001 and is one of the original members of the UH<\/abbr> Letterwinners Club.<\/p>\n

The UH<\/abbr> Letterwinners Club is comprised of former student-athletes at UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n
