Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> will build career pathways for up to 3,000 local residents by providing free skills training and job placement support for high-demand, well-paying jobs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-it-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Students in computer lab with instructor\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-172004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-it-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-it-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-it-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a coordinated effort with more than 70 employers, the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges are offering free skills training in the following high-demand industries: healthcare, technology, clean energy\/skilled trades and creative industries. Employers from these sectors are identifying needed positions and the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges are providing the career pathways to these in-demand jobs through free skills training and support.<\/p>\n<p>Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is building on <a href=\"https:\/\/oahubacktowork.com\/\"><span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> Back to Work<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/reimagine\/\">Hana Career Pathways<\/a>, the two previous <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges workforce training programs that have provided free skills training for more than 4,000 <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> residents since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is committed to helping kama\u02bb\u0101ina get quality jobs by providing education and career training,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;This partnership provides pathways that match what local businesses and industries are looking for right now in their workforce.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Interested participants can apply at <a href=\"http:\/\/goodjobshawaii.org\">goodjobshawaii.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Committed local businesses<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-hvac-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-172006\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-hvac-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-hvac-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-hvac.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More than 70 businesses have already committed to participate in the initiative. Businesses are invited to join the partnership coalition to help identify positions that need to be filled, co-design  training opportunities and prioritize our local workforce in hiring and advancement. <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/goodjobshawaii\/employer.php\">Employers<\/a> statewide can join the Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> coalition by signing a <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/goodjobshawaii\/downloads\/GJH_Pledge.pdf\">Talent Action Pledge<\/a> online as a first step.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> will equip people with the skills they need to get good jobs\u2014jobs that provide economic stability, economic mobility, and a sense of purpose and respect,&rdquo; said Keala Peters, Chamber of Commerce executive vice president, Education and Workforce Development. &ldquo;With the current labor shortage, employers are coming to the table to accelerate efforts to build equitable pathways to quality jobs for residents.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-diesel-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Student working under the hood of a car with an instructor nearby\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-172005\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-diesel-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-diesel-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-diesel-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Funding for the program comes from multiple federal, state, county and philanthropic resources, including $16.4 million over the next three years from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. In addition, Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> will support the training and wraparound support costs for participants and leverage various federal and state programs administered under the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Workforce Development Division.<\/p>\n<h2>Health sector success<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-nursing-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-172009\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-nursing-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-nursing-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-nursing.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The health sector has already had success filling needed positions by coordinating with the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges on workforce training. Ohana Pacific Health Chief Executive Officer Wesley Lo emphasized the importance of workforce development efforts in providing essential workers for their skilled nursing facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;With the recent earn and learn glidepath for <abbr>CNA<\/abbr>s to become <abbr>LPN<\/abbr>s, our nurses can continue to work while in school, enabling them to provide for their families while advancing their career to earn a living wage,&rdquo; said Lo. &ldquo;We\u2019re grateful for this collaboration and the Good Jobs initiative that supports employers by directly addressing staffing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Lassner noted that &ldquo;This demonstrates our commitment to the imperatives of our new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\/regular\/materials\/202211170845\/BOR_11_17_2022_Materials.pdf#page=185\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> System Âé¶¹´«Ã½ 2023\u20132029 \u2013 <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s University for Today and Tomorrow<\/a>, one of which is to meet <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> workforce needs of today and tomorrow. We will address the full spectrum of needs from workforce training programs such as Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, to the many well-paying jobs that require 2-year, 4-year and graduate degrees available across our 10 <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Widespread support<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-welding-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-172008\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-welding-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-welding-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/comm-coll-good-jpbs-welding.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> partners currently include Chamber of Commerce <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, Healthcare Association of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Energy Office, and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. Informational sessions for participants and employer partners are planned for February and March.<\/p>\n<p>Support for the Good Jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> initiative is provided by various government and philanthropic organizations including the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Department of Education, the City &#38; County of Honolulu, Ascendium Education Group, the Harold K.L.
