The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa men’s basketball<\/a> team claimed the inaugural Patty Mills North Shore Classic title on November 26, with a 72-65 win over Texas State University. With the win, UH<\/abbr> improved to 5-1 for the program’s best start since the 2015–16 season.<\/p>\n

Noel Coleman<\/strong> scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting—15 of which came in the second half. He was named the tournament MVP<\/abbr> after averaging 20.5 points per game.<\/p>\n

UH<\/abbr> came out of the gates strong, and scored seven unanswered points and doubled up Texas State, 22-11, with less than nine minutes in the first half.<\/p>\n

The two teams went back and forth throughout much of the second half, but the Rainbow Warriors started to create some separation around the seven-minute mark. With UH<\/abbr> up by one, Coleman scored four straight points to stretch the lead to 55-50 with 6:33 left to play.<\/p>\n

Bernardo Da Silva<\/strong> gave UH<\/abbr> a seven-point lead with back-to-back buckets, the second of which was a dunk off of a feed from JoVon McClanahan<\/strong> as the shot clock expired, making the score 59-52 with 5:06 left. The two teams traded buckets the rest of the way, with Samuta Avea<\/strong> hitting four straight free throws in the final minute to secure the win.<\/p>\n

Da Silva joined Coleman on the all-tournament team after finishing with 14 points and seven rebounds to average 15 points per game and six rebounds across the tournament.<\/p>\n

The Rainbow Warriors shot above 50 percent as a team for the third straight game at 51.1 percent on the night, while committing just nine turnovers including only three in the second half. The team shot 56.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from three-point range over their last three games.<\/p>\n

What\u02bbs next<\/h2>\n

This week, the Rainbow Warriors will return to the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center to play Texas A&M Commerce on November 30.<\/p>\n
