The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo men\u2019s basketball<\/a> team opened the 2022\u201323 season with a 99-79 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University American Indian College (SAGU<\/abbr> AIC<\/abbr>) on November 11.<\/p>\n

Darren Williams<\/strong> shot an astounding 81.8% from the field to put up 27 points for the Vulcans. The senior shot 6-of-8 from beyond the arc while dishing out nine assists to fall one shy of a double-double. Williams also collected four rebounds and had three steals.<\/p>\n

“This is how you want to start the year, for sure,” said UH<\/abbr> Hilo men\u2019s basketball Head Coach Kaniela Aiona<\/strong>. “The guys were making the hustle plays, getting on the ground; lot’s of positives with the effort and attitude.”<\/p>\n

SAGU<\/abbr> AIC<\/abbr> got off to a 5-0 lead, but a barrage of 3-pointers from Williams and Jarin Edwards<\/strong> provided the push to propel the Vulcans out front.<\/p>\n

Several other Vulcans also had a great scoring night.<\/p>\n

Carlos Ramsey Jr.<\/strong> contributed 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting (71.4%) with six rebounds.<\/p>\n

Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones<\/strong> also finished with double-digit scoring figures, going 5-for-9 from the field (55.6%) with six rebounds.<\/p>\n

Drew Yezbek<\/strong> shot 5-of-7 from the three-point line to rack up 15 points in the game.<\/p>\n

Nadjrick Peat<\/strong> and Edwards both brought in nine rebounds, with Peat also totaling five blocks.<\/p>\n
