University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa water polo<\/a> alumna Irene Gonzalez<\/strong> helped her home country of Spain claim its first FINA Water Polo World League Championship<\/a> on November 6.<\/p>\n

Spain upended Hungary 19-18 as Gonzalez tallied three goals in the finals match to end a run by the United States of seven consecutive titles in the World League.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez, a 2019 UH<\/abbr> graduate, was a two-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American First Team member and the only Rainbow Wahine to claim multiple Big West Player of the Year awards.<\/p>\n

Joining Gonzalez in the championships were two other former Rainbow Wahine, Maartje Keuning<\/strong> and Maxine Schaap<\/strong>, who both competed for their home country of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
