(Courtesy: Hunt Companies)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two major efforts begin today tied to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/rise.hawaii.edu\">Residences for Innovative Student Entrepreneurs<\/a> (<abbr>RISE<\/abbr>) project. Applications open for leasing at <abbr>RISE<\/abbr>, which is slated to open in fall 2023, and scholarships for 50 <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship through the <a href=\"https:\/\/pace.shidler.hawaii.edu\/\">Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a> (<abbr>PACE<\/abbr>) <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> Leaders program.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pace.shidler.hawaii.edu\/leaders\/\"><abbr>PACE<\/abbr> Leaders program<\/a> is open to students from all disciplines at all 10 <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System campuses. <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> Leaders will have the opportunity to shape and design programs offered by <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> and gain hands-on experience to develop their leadership skills and grow a community of innovative and entrepreneurial-minded students throughout the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System. Students may apply for the program, and each will receive a scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"blocklink\">Read more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/tag\/rise\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <abbr>RISE<\/abbr> center.<\/a> <br \/>To apply, visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/rise.hawaii.edu\">RISE website<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are excited to launch the <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> Leaders program,&rdquo; said <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> Executive Director <strong>Sandra Fujiyama<\/strong>. &ldquo;These students will have the opportunity to gain transferable skills while enriching the education of their peers and receiving scholarship support. We&#8217;re proud to be using <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarsapp.com\/\">Scholar\u2019s App<\/a> to process the leadership applications. Scholar\u2019s App was started by <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> alum <strong>Traven Watase<\/strong> and it&#8217;s a full circle moment to be able to partner with Scholar\u2019s App as we begin taking application for this new leadership program.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships totaling $600,000 from The Clarence <abbr>T.C.<\/abbr> Ching Foundation, the Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/shidler.hawaii.edu\/\">Shidler College of Business<\/a> alumni <strong>Kent<\/strong> and <strong>Jean Tsukamoto<\/strong>, and others were gifted to <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> to support the <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> Leaders program and to promote a student body that is diverse and representative of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s community.<\/p>\n<p>Additional scholarships from Central Pacific Bank Foundation and Kamehameha Schools are also available. Kamehameha Schools is offering 25 scholarships to Native Hawaiian students who live at <abbr>RISE<\/abbr> through the <span aria-label=\"Pii\">Pi&#699;i<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Ae\">A&#699;e<\/span> Scholarships. Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out to <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> for more information on the Kamehameha Schools scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>The new scholarships are intended to support students involved with <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> and\/or living at <abbr>RISE<\/abbr>, an innovation-and-entrepreneurship center with about 374 beds for student housing across from the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa campus. The 219 fully furnished single and double rooms are available to lease now for fall 2023 on <abbr>RISE<\/abbr>\u2019s website, and are open to students at any of the 10 <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>PACE<\/abbr> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation<\/a> have raised more than $4 million, to date, in support of <abbr>RISE<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Student residents who move into <abbr>RISE<\/abbr> in fall 2023 will enjoy not only a brand-new housing community with like-minded students, but proximity to the wealth of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> entrepreneurship programs offered by <abbr>PACE<\/abbr> that will be centered in the classroom, makerspaces, meeting rooms and co-working spaces on the floors right below.<\/p>\n<p>University officials expect significant demand for the 374 beds in the $70 million live-learn-work <abbr>RISE<\/abbr> facility on the site of the former Atherton <abbr title=\"Young Men's Christian Association\">YMCA<\/abbr> at the corner of University Avenue and Metcalf Street.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>RISE<\/abbr> is fully funded with private, non-taxpayer money. <abbr>UH<\/abbr>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation and Hunt Companies entered into a public-private partnership (<abbr>P3<\/abbr>) to design, build and finance the facility.
