That\u2019s according to a survey by the <a href=\"https:\/\/stradaeducation.org\">Strada Education Network<\/a>, a non-profit organization focused on post-secondary education success.<\/p>\n<p>Strada surveyed 1,112 alumni who graduated with a bachelor\u02bbs degree from one of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s public universities in the past 20 years. The key findings include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>74%&#8212;<abbr>UH<\/abbr> education was worth the cost (national average: 65%)<\/li>\n<li>76%&#8212;<abbr>UH<\/abbr> helped achieve their goals (national average: 72%)<\/li>\n<li>79%&#8212;<abbr>UH<\/abbr> helped prepare for their career (national average: 75%)<\/li>\n<li>78%&#8212;<abbr>UH<\/abbr> prepared them for a better quality of life (national average: 75%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-fall-2020-commencement-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"U H Manoa graduate\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-132975\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-fall-2020-commencement-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-fall-2020-commencement-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-fall-2020-commencement.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Complete results of the Strada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/vpaa\/Strada\/Strada_Outcomes_Survey_Report-University_of_Hawaii.pdf\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> survey data<\/a> (<span class=\"small-text\"><abbr title=\"Portable Document Format\">PDF<\/abbr><\/span>)and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/vpaa\/Strada\/Strada_Outcomes_Survey_Report-National_(1).pdf\">national survey data<\/a> (<span class=\"small-text\"><abbr>PDF<\/abbr><\/span>)are available online.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These objective survey results reaffirm what I hear throughout the community from our alumni, that <abbr>UH<\/abbr> played a key role in their personal success and that they value their time at <abbr>UH<\/abbr>,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;It is clear that we are on the right track as we continue to improve the student experience at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> and meet the needs of our state.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the survey findings, a <a href=\"https:\/\/uhero.hawaii.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/HI_P-20.pdf\">2016 study by the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Economic Research Organization<\/a> (<span class=\"small-text\"><abbr>PDF<\/abbr><\/span>) (<abbr>UHERO<\/abbr>) found that the rate of return on investment for a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> degree is about 11%. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> graduates earn between $300,000 to $2.9 million more in lifetime earnings, compared to high school graduates, depending on the type of degree earned (associate, bachelor, post graduate).<\/p>\n<p>In order to help shape <abbr>UH<\/abbr>\u2019s new strategic plan, the Strada survey also asked alumni to state what they think <abbr>UH<\/abbr>\u02bbs number one priority should be over the next six years. The top four recommendations were:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-3-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"graudate raising his arms\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-141586\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-3-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-3.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare more <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> residents to fill the jobs <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> needs (40%)<\/li>\n<li>Seeding new economic sectors (23%)<\/li>\n<li>Engaging more <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> residents in post-secondary education and training (17%)<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening <abbr>UH<\/abbr> research enterprise as a major economic and intellectual driver (13%)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&ldquo;Mahalo to Strada for inviting us to participate in this survey, which provides important and useful data,&rdquo; said Lassner. &ldquo;Strada has been an amazing partner over the past years and this is yet another example of how they are helping us advance post-secondary student success in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The survey data is one of the many sources of broad input being used to develop the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/vp-academic-strategy\/uh-strategic-plan-2023-2029\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Â鶹´«Ã½ 2023&#8211;2029<\/a>. The university is asking for feedback on the first draft of the plan, specifically on the plan\u2019s four imperatives.
