The month-long celebration spearheaded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiiponoi.info\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Ponoi\">Pono&#699;&#299;<\/span> Coalition<\/a> in collaboration with the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hshk\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge<\/a> will be held both online and in-person and commences on Friday, September 2, in honor of Queen <span aria-label=\"Liliuokalani\">Lili&#699;uokalani<\/span>\u2019s 184th birthday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_164377\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-164377\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-hawaiinuiakea-nobrega-m-300x169.jpeg\" alt=\"Malia Nobrega\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-164377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-hawaiinuiakea-nobrega-m-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-hawaiinuiakea-nobrega-m-130x73.jpeg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-hawaiinuiakea-nobrega-m.jpeg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-164377\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Malia Nobrega<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A virtual celebration in observation of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s last reigning monarch will be <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiianhistorymonth.org\/\">live-streamed at 9 a.m.<\/a> featuring mele (songs) and hula. An in-person walking tour and concert will also be held at 4 p.m. Events will continue with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiiponoi.info\/\">five-week virtual series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malia Nobrega<\/strong>, director of strategic partnerships at <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> helped organize events and is also spearheading <em><a href=\"https:\/\/anahuluolelohawaii.org\/\">He &#699;\u014clelo Ola: &#699;Aha K\u016bk\u0101 &#699;\u014clelo <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a><\/em>, a two-day Hawaiian language conference part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages which will kick off following Friday morning\u2019s opening ceremony. Directed by <strong>Sammie Choy<\/strong>, a theatre and acting lecturer at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College and <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa, the play celebrates the royal prince\u2019s life and many accomplishments that shaped <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> from county governments, Hawaiian Civic Clubs to the Hawaiian Home\u2019s Commission Act. Live music will precede the free performance at 3:30 p.m. on the lawn at &#699;Iolani Palace.
