(Photo courtesy: Little League Baseball and Softball)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Team Honolulu captured the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.littleleague.org\/world-series\/2022\/llbws\/\">2022 Little League World Series<\/a> (<abbr>LLWS<\/abbr>) championship game, 13-3, over Cura&ccedil;ao, August 28 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The team\u2019s manager, <strong>Gerald Oda<\/strong>, is a 1997 University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa graduate in <a href=\"https:\/\/politicalscience.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">political science<\/a>. Oda was also the manager when his Honolulu team won the <abbr>LLWS<\/abbr> championship in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>After the 2022 win, Oda said he was &ldquo;extremely blessed and grateful for this opportunity.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;After 2018, [I thought] the next time I would come to Williamsport would be as a spectator, supporting another team. We\u2019re fortunate enough to have had great kids in our league this year. It\u2019s a long journey. It\u2019s going from districts, going on to the regionals and here, and anything can happen. As we progressed, the kids really started gelling and playing well together. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be back in 2022 coaching a team,&rdquo; Oda said.<\/p>\n<p>Oda\u2019s team outscored opponents in the <abbr>LLWS<\/abbr>, 60-5, over six games. The West Region champions defeated the Southeast Region representative from Nolensville, Tennessee, 5-1, in the U.S. Championship on August 27, which got them into the <abbr>LLWS<\/abbr> final.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> baseball Head Coach <strong>Rich Hill<\/strong> said, &ldquo;What these kids and coaches accomplished is unreal! The teamwork and spirit of Aloha displayed are what youth sports are all about. Their accomplishment represents a passionate baseball community here in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_164326\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-164326\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-athletics-baseball-Kaeo-aliviado-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"baseball player with bat\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-164326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-athletics-baseball-Kaeo-aliviado-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-athletics-baseball-Kaeo-aliviado-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/manoa-athletics-baseball-Kaeo-aliviado.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-164326\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kaeo Aliviado finished his four-year career at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> playing in 206 games with 204 hits and 103 runs scored.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 2022 championship marked the fourth <abbr>LLWS<\/abbr> victory for a team from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. The <span aria-label=\"Ewa\">&#699;Ewa<\/span> Beach team won the title in 2005 and the <span aria-label=\"Waipio\">Waipi&#699;o<\/span> team brought home the championship in 2008. Among the players on those teams included former Rainbow Warrior baseball players <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiiathletics.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/kaeo-aliviado\/13994\"><strong>Kaeo Aliviado<\/strong><\/a> (2005, <span aria-label=\"Ewa\">&#699;Ewa<\/span> Beach) and <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiiathletics.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jedd-andrade\/17213\"><strong>Jedd Andrade<\/strong><\/a> (2008, <span aria-label=\"Waipio\">Waipi&#699;o<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[This year\u2019s team members] are rockstars of this year\u2019s Little League World Series tournament. They\u2019re the face of Little League baseball,&rdquo; Aliviado said. &ldquo;To see them compete and to see them dominate is pretty unreal. From hitting, pitching to playing defense, they pretty much have the whole package. That\u2019s hard to find as a Little League team, a 12-year-old team that\u2019s just dominating like that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_164329\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-164329\" style=\"width: 207px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/little-league-baseball-card-kaeo-aliviado1-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"little league baseball card\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-164329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/little-league-baseball-card-kaeo-aliviado1-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/little-league-baseball-card-kaeo-aliviado1-90x130.jpg 90w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/little-league-baseball-card-kaeo-aliviado1.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-164329\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kaeo Aliviado&#8217;s Little League baseball card<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like the 2022 team, Aliviado\u2019s <span aria-label=\"Ewa\">&#699;Ewa<\/span> Beach team defeated Cura&ccedil;ao in the final, 7-6.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The love that the little town in Williamsport, Pennsylvania gives you&#8212;it really feeds off of your energy,&rdquo; Aliviado said. &ldquo;Once you step foot on that ground, you really made it to the promised land as a 12-year-old kid in the Little League World Series. You\u2019re playing on the biggest stage for that tournament. You\u2019re going to be on <abbr>ESPN<\/abbr> every day.
