This week\u2019s Image of the Week is from the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa Woods Hole \u2013 Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Ocean Time Series site<\/a> (WHOTS<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n

Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Institute for Marine Biology Visiting Researcher Program Coordinator Kelsey Maloney<\/strong> shared this image: “Tully Rohrer<\/strong> waiting for the deployment of the WHOTS<\/abbr>-18 mooring at Station ALOHA<\/a>. WHOTS<\/abbr> is the Woods Hole – Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Ocean Time-series<\/a> (HOT) site. This is a joint project between the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology\u2019s HOT program and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute upper ocean processes team. We have been doing this project for 18 years, and it\u2019s still going strong with our commitment to understanding the ocean around us.”<\/p>\n

Station ALOHA is the focal point of a range of oceanographic studies conducted over time to study trends of the greater North Pacific Ocean. Station ALOHA was established in 1988 and stands for “A Long-term Oligotrophic Habitat Assessment” (ALOHA).<\/p>\n

The most extended form is HOT in which scientists from UH<\/abbr> conduct 4 day research cruises to the site almost monthly. Read more about the 300th HOT scientific expedition<\/a>.<\/p>\n
