The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo men\u2019s basketball team was honored with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC<\/abbr>) Team Academic Award, given to programs that ended the 2021–22 school year with a team grade point average of 3.0 or better. The Vulcans have had student-athletes make the NABC<\/abbr> list in the past, but this is the first time that the entire team earned the honor.<\/p>\n

\"N<\/p>\n

“Our goal is to win in the classroom, in the community and on the court,” said head coach Kaniela Aiona<\/strong>, who will begin his third season leading the program. “We have set the 3.0 GPA<\/abbr> as a team goal, and this is another great step forward for us.”<\/p>\n

NABC<\/abbr> also announced its Honors Court award, which is given to student-athletes who have reached junior, senior or graduate student status and have a cumulative GPA<\/abbr> of 3.2 or higher. For the third year in a row, Vulcan student-athletes Steven Hubbell<\/strong> and Anthony Haskett<\/strong> were on that list.<\/p>\n

Overall, five players on the 2021–22 Vulcan team had GPA<\/abbr>\u2019s of 3.5 or better. Eight players were at 3.1 and above, pushing Aiona\u2019s team to the Team Academic Award with a GPA<\/abbr> of 3.097.<\/p>\n
