Monte Carlo Night brings to life the world of mathematics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A team of more than 50 mathematicians and students from the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> invite 7th–12th grade students to Monte Carlo Night<\/a>, an evening of probability games and mathematical thinking on Wednesday, April 24, 6–8 p.m. at the Campus Center Ballroom. The event is free to attend.<\/p>\n

Monte Carlo Night is designed to show students the power of mathematical thought. Through a variety of games and displays, students will discover how to outwit an opponent in any game, make sound decisions based on limited knowledge and understand how to internalize probabilities and statistics.<\/p>\n

SUPER-M program<\/h2>\n

Monte Carlo Night will be lead by the School and University Partnership Educational for Renewal in Mathematics<\/a> (SUPER-M<\/abbr>). SUPER-M<\/abbr> is an outreach program in the Department of Mathematics<\/a> at UH<\/abbr> Mānoa.<\/p>\n

Funded by the National Science Foundation<\/a> and the Graduate STEM<\/abbr> Fellows in K–12 Education Program, SUPER-M<\/abbr> strives to improve the perception of mathematics in the community through various activities and events. SUPER-M<\/abbr> has officially partnered with 29 K–12 schools throughout the state since 2009.<\/p>\n
