The interview took a different turn when Ah You was told that she was named the winner of the #TakeMeToManoa social media contest hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\">Hawaii News Now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/MKouQGobg_Q\/\">See Ah You presented with the award<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa admissions counselor <strong>Jose Magno<\/strong>, Kamehameha Schools teachers and staff presented the visibly stunned student and her parents with a giant check for a year of free tuition at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa, courtesy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfcu.com\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Federal Credit Union<\/a> (<abbr>UHFCU<\/abbr>). <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_159641\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-159641\" style=\"width: 676px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/manoa-admissions-nanea.jpg\" alt=\"3 people\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"size-full wp-image-159641\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/manoa-admissions-nanea.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/manoa-admissions-nanea-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/manoa-admissions-nanea-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-159641\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nanea with her parents<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Thank you!&rdquo; said Ah You with tears in her eyes. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Each spring for the past four years, the #TakeMeToManoa social media contest has allowed our campus to connect with the local community in a very thoughtful, engaging, and authentic way,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Provost <strong>Michael Bruno<\/strong>. &ldquo;Nanea is an incredible visual storyteller, with an enormous amount of talent. Beyond a voice for herself, she is a voice for her community. We are honored and privileged to have Nanea\u02bbs academic journey continue here at M\u0101noa.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Since 1955, we&#8217;ve been committed to helping members and our community thrive. To honor that promise, we&#8217;re excited to partner with the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> to offer scholarship programs like the #TakeMeToManoa social media contest that support students and the future well-being of our communities,&rdquo; said <abbr>UHFCU<\/abbr> President and <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr> Travis Bow. &ldquo;We recognize the financial challenge and sacrifices a family and student must make to complete a degree, and we are proud to play a part in helping them reach their academic goals.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The online contest, which was open to incoming fall 2022 <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> freshmen and transfer students, asked entrants to upload a short video explaining why <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa is the right college for them, and the impact a year of free tuition will have on their life. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BCVibzDCuCc\">Ah You\u2019s poignant video entry<\/a> touched upon how winning this contest will enable her to go farther in pursuing her dreams as a filmmaker and use her talent to shine the spotlight upon her l\u0101hui. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When I see my future at M\u0101noa, I see myself thriving at what I love to do while also remaining close with the <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span> and its k\u0101naka,&rdquo;
