The spring episode <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/wailau\/watch.php\">will premiere online<\/a> on Saturday, May 7, at 2 p.m. and will feature four storytellers focusing on <em>Tales of Misunderstanding<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Wailau means where water from diverse sources comes together to commingle and become a more powerful, unified whole. The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo program was launched in spring 2021 to provide a space for students, faculty, alumni and community members to build connections across the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island campus.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/hilo-wailau-logo-300x208.png\" alt=\"Wailau logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-158125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/hilo-wailau-logo-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/hilo-wailau-logo-130x90.png 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/hilo-wailau-logo.png 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Spring 2022 storytellers<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Apollo Harris<\/strong>, &ldquo;The Cursed Goods of Robert H. Babe&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kalei Rapoza<\/strong>, &ldquo;Hana No????&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kurt D. Dela Cruz<\/strong>, &ldquo;Two Men&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vijaya Singh<\/strong>, &ldquo;No Room to Be Me&rdquo;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Singh graduated from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo in 2015 and returned to the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island campus from her home in Long Island, New York, to film her story.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I feel lucky and blessed and happy, because it has helped me see my full journey. I can get caught up in the minutiae of everything, everyday life, especially with my career; I always feel like I\u2019m not moving fast enough. Being here, telling my story, even walking around town, put a lot of things in perspective. And now, getting to see things and sitting in restaurants, things I couldn\u2019t do as a student, has brought everything full circle for me. It\u2019s great to see how far I\u2019ve come and allow myself a happy nostalgia. It will be my prevailing thought as I move forward in Long Island.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span aria-label=\"Kuuhiapo\">Ku&#699;uhiapo<\/span> Jeong<\/strong> (<abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo student), <strong>Dayva Escobar<\/strong> (<abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo alumna) and Julie Mitchell (<span aria-label=\"Kuikahi\">Ku&#699;ikahi<\/span> Mediation Center) will host the event. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo students play a major role in staging the event, from selecting the theme and stories, to operating lights, sound and cameras.
