Sixteen of the state\u2019s leaders in innovation were on full display in a bracket-style challenge mirroring college basketball\u2019s March Madness tournament. Hosted by Pacific Business News<\/em><\/a> (PBN<\/abbr>), the organizations went head-to-head in a single elimination contest with winners advancing by readers\u2019 vote. Taking the top spot was TurnoverBnB<\/a>, born out of the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa, with 1,369 votes over opponent Parklinq with 1,069 votes, PBN<\/abbr> announced on March 31.<\/p>\n

TurnoverBnB is a cleaning service app that helps users schedule, pay and find Airbnb vacation rental cleaners and cleaning services. The company was created in 2017 by Assaf Karmon<\/strong>, a master\u2019s of business administration alumnus from UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Shidler College of Business<\/a>. The idea for TurnoverBnB was created in a Shidler entrepreneurial finance course and the company competed in the 2017 Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a> Business Plan Competition<\/a>, where it placed third.<\/p>\n

Karmon, the company\u2019s CEO<\/abbr>, told PBN<\/abbr>, “It\u2019s great to be recognized by the Pacific Business News<\/em> readers. We have a world-wide customer base but being supported by our local community feels amazing. TurnoverBnB is a local success story, starting from the UH<\/abbr> MBA<\/abbr> program, through Blue Startups and with support of the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Angels investor group. Almost all of our Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> employees are Shidler graduates and we want to create a role model of success for local entrepreneurs.”<\/p>\n

According to PBN<\/abbr>, the bracket was designed to spotlight innovative and fast-growing local businesses in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>. Other UH<\/abbr>-launched organizations that were selected to participate include: Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Innovation Laboratory<\/a>, Nimbus AI<\/abbr>, Pear Suite<\/a> and Pol\u016b Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
