This is the highest number of <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa grad programs on the list since at least 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The 2023 edition evaluates graduate schools on a variety of factors, including research activity, expert assessment scores, doctoral degrees awarded, acceptance rates, placement success, standardized test scores and grade-point averages of incoming students.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are gratified that many of our graduate programs continue to receive national recognition for their excellence. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> residents should take pride in knowing that one of the top universities in the world is located right here, educating future innovators, educators and leaders,&rdquo; <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Provost <strong>Michael Bruno<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>Note: not all programs are ranked every year. Burns School of Medicine<\/h2>\n<p>The state\u2019s only medical school, <a href=\"https:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>), ranked <abbr title=\"Number\">No<\/abbr>. 24 in primary care and <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 74 in research out of 124 of the best medical schools in the nation. This is the third time in six years that <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> made the top 25 for primary care (<abbr>No<\/abbr>. 19 in 2016 and <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 24 in 2021). <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> also placed <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 31 for percentage of 2013&#8211;15 graduates practicing in primary care specialties. <a href=\"https:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/once-again-jabsom-makes-the-top-25-list-for-best-medical-schools-by-the-us-news-world-report\/\">Read more at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>&#8216;s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"nursing\">Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing<\/a>\u2019s doctor of nursing practice (<abbr>DNP<\/abbr>) program was ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 85 among 158 schools considered in <em>U.S. News<\/em>\u2019s Best Nursing Schools. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Nursing is the only <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>DNP<\/abbr> program ranked by <em>U.S. News<\/em> since 2018. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Nursing also placed <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 80 out of 199 schools for best master\u2019s nursing programs.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"law\">William S. Richardson School of Law<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/\">William S. Shidler\u2019s part-time master of business administration program (global <abbr title=\"Master of Business Administration\">MBA<\/abbr>, 36-month plan) placed <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 114, up from <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 152 in the previous year, among 278 part-time <abbr>MBA<\/abbr> programs that qualified for this ranking. Shidler\u2019s <abbr>MBA<\/abbr> programs are the only Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International accredited MBA programs in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and among the few <abbr>MBA<\/abbr> programs in the U.S. with a true Asia-Pacific focus.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"education\">College of Education<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Education<\/a> (<abbr>COE<\/abbr>) ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 67 of 274 schools considered, the 17th straight year the college has been listed as one of the nation\u2019s top 100 education programs. Nationally accredited since 2000, <abbr>COE<\/abbr> continues to be recognized for its award-winning programs and people.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"engineering\">College of Engineering<\/h2>\n<p>Four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a> graduate programs were ranked among the best in the nation, according to <em>U.S. News<\/em>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cee.hawaii.edu\/\">Civil engineering<\/a> ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 98; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ee.hawaii.edu\/\">electrical engineering<\/a> placed <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 99; <a href=\"https:\/\/me.hawaii.edu\/\">mechanical engineering<\/a> is <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 122; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ics.hawaii.edu\/welcome\/academics\/graduate-degree-programs\/ph-d-in-ics\/\">computer science<\/a>, a joint program in the College of Engineering and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ics.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of Information and Computer Sciences<\/a>, ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 135. The College of Engineering ranked in the <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 152&#8211;200 tier among top engineering schools in the U.S. that grant doctoral degrees.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"natural\">College of Natural Sciences<\/h2>\n<p>Graduate programs in the <a href=\"https:\/\/natsci.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Natural Sciences<\/a> were ranked by <em>U.S. News<\/em>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phys.hawaii.edu\/\">physics<\/a> (<abbr>No<\/abbr>. 95), <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/biology\/\">biology<\/a> (<abbr>No<\/abbr>. 100), <a href=\"https:\/\/math.hawaii.edu\/wordpress\/\">mathematics<\/a> (<abbr>No<\/abbr>. 132), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ics.hawaii.edu\/welcome\/academics\/graduate-degree-programs\/ph-d-in-ics\/\">computer science<\/a> (<abbr>No<\/abbr>. 135) and <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/chem\/\">chemistry<\/a> (<abbr>No<\/abbr>. 140).<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"health\">Thompson School of Social Work &#38; Public Health<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/\">Thompson School of Social Work &#38; Public Health<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/dsw\/\">Department of Social Work<\/a> ranked in the top 17&#37; nationally of social work graduate programs, <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 51 out of 298. The department offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/bsw\/\">bachelor of social work<\/a> (<abbr>BSW<\/abbr>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/msw\/\">master of social work<\/a> (<abbr>MSW<\/abbr>), with specializations in child and family, behavioral mental health, gerontology, and health. The <abbr>MSW<\/abbr> and <abbr>BSW<\/abbr> degrees are offered through campus-based and <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/distance-education\/\">distance education modalities<\/a>, serving students on the neighbor islands of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and Guam. The department also offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/phd\/\"><abbr title=\"Doctor of Philosophy\">PhD<\/abbr> in social welfare<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/\">Office of Public Health Studies<\/a> (<abbr>OPHS<\/abbr>) ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 89 out of 195 public health schools and programs in the U.S. accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. <abbr>OPHS<\/abbr> offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/degrees\/undergraduate\/sample\">bachelor in arts in public health<\/a>; a <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/degrees\/graduate\/master-of-public-health\">master in public health<\/a>, with specializations in <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/specializations\/epidemiology\">epidemiology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/specializations\/health-policy-and-management\">health policy and management<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/specializations\/native-hawaiian-and-indigenous-health\">Native Hawaiian and Indigenous health<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/specializations\/social-and-behavioral-health-sciences\">social and behavioral health sciences<\/a>, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/degrees\/graduate\/master-of-science-in-public-health\">master of science specializing in epidemiology<\/a>, as well as <abbr>PhD<\/abbr> program in <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/degrees\/doctoral\/phd-in-public-health\">public health<\/a>, specializing in community-based and translational research and a <abbr>PhD<\/abbr> in <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/degrees\/doctoral\/phd-in-epidemiology\">epidemiology<\/a>. <abbr>OPHS<\/abbr> is also home to a recently launched online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/11\/15\/online-public-health-degree\/\">master of public health<\/a> program to meet workforce demands.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"social\">College of Social Sciences<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/puba.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Public Administration Program<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialsciences.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Social Sciences<\/a> ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 88, up nine spots from the previous year, out of 270 graduate programs considered. The ranking puts the program in the top third of all master\u2019s of public administration programs in the country. The master\u2019s of public administration program is the state\u2019s only Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration accredited program, offering an 18-month accelerated, two-year full-time and three-year part-time plan.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economics.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of Economics<\/a> ranked <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 120 in the nation and the <a href=\"https:\/\/psychology.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of Psychology<\/a> is <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 122.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ocean\">School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/earthsciences\/index.html\">Department of Earth Sciences<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> placed <abbr>No<\/abbr>. 46 out of 162 earth sciences doctoral programs considered.
