The Celebration of Life was attended by many of Brennan&#8217;s former teammates, coaches and friends, along with the Brennan family, which included cousin Brent Brennan, head coach of San Jose State. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> head coach <strong>Timmy Chang<\/strong> and many of the current Rainbow Warriors football team and staff also attended. For more on the Celebration of Life and to see additional photos, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiiathletics.com\/news\/2022\/3\/20\/football-celebration-of-life-colt-brennan.aspx\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Athletics website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Original story:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Brennan <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span> would like to invite friends, family and University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> football fans to join them in celebrating the life of former <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> legendary quarterback <strong>Colt Brennan<\/strong>, who passed away in May 2021. A brief ceremony will be held on Waik\u012bk\u012b beach in front of Duke\u2019s Restaurant on Sunday, March 20 starting at 8 a.m. A paddle out will immediately follow, and the family will spread Brennan\u2019s ashes.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We were really overwhelmed by the love and support we received from everyone in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> when Colt passed away, and it\u2019s only appropriate that we celebrate him in a place that he truly loved and considered home,&rdquo; said Colt\u2019s father Terry Brennan. &ldquo;We&#8217;re so grateful to everyone in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and are glad we can finally lay Colt to rest among those who really loved and embraced him.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_141395\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-141395\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manoa-athletics-brennan-c-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"U H football player\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-141395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manoa-athletics-brennan-c-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manoa-athletics-brennan-c-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/manoa-athletics-brennan-c.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-141395\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Colt Brennan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 30-minute, pre-paddle out ceremony will include a greeting by Kimo Kahoano, eulogies by former <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Coach <strong>June Jones<\/strong>, current <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Coach <strong>Timmy Chang<\/strong> and a family member, and a Hawaiian blessing by Kahu Kordell Kekoa. Following the ceremony, attendees may paddle out in canoe, kayaks, surfboards, longboards, boogie boards, <abbr title=\"etcetera\">etc<\/abbr>., out from Duke&#8217;s Restaurant at the Outrigger Waik\u012bk\u012b Beach, where a brief blessing will be held on the beach before spreading Brennan&#8217;s ashes in the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>The beach ceremony can be accessed from either direction of the Waik\u012bk\u012b beach shoreline or via the Outrigger Waik\u012bk\u012b Beach Resort on Kal\u0101kaua Avenue. Money raised will support causes that Colt cared about, including <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Athletics and youth sports. It will also benefit organizations that advocate and provide resources toward making a difference in the lives of individuals struggling with mental health and addiction issues.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Barefoot League and HiLife have also collaborated to design a Colt Brennan Tribute shirt, available for $30 online at <a href=\"http:\/\/hilifeclothing.com\">HiLife\u2019s website<\/a>. All proceeds from t-shirt sales benefit The Colt Brennan Legacy Fund.<\/p>\n<h2>More about Colt<\/h2>\n<p>Raised in California, Colt Brennan joined <abbr>UH<\/abbr> in 2005 and became one of the school&#8217;s most celebrated football players. Brennan received multiple awards and honors for breaking college career records and leading the Rainbow Warriors to victories during his three seasons at <abbr>UH<\/abbr>, including an undefeated regular season, Sugar Bowl bid and Heisman Trophy nomination in 2007. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2008, returned to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> after his brief <abbr title=\"National Football League\">NFL<\/abbr> career and volunteered as a coach for various youth football teams.
