Chords will be projected on a screen for all to play along.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> music programs statewide invite the community to enjoy <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/music\/kani-kuola-music-festival-2\/\">morning<\/a> educational workshops; <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/music\/kani-kuola-music-festival-3\/\">afternoon<\/a> kanikapila, master classes and panels with community and music industry professionals; and <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/music\/kani-kuola-music-festival-4\/\">evening<\/a> performances by students, community members and guest artists.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/music\/kani-kuola-music-festival\/\">Kani K\u016bola: First Annual <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System Music Festival<\/a> website for the most up-to-date information about the event. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/kani-kuola-annual-uh-system-music-festival-tickets-268242509567\">Register online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Many benefits of music<\/h2>\n<p>&ldquo;The name &lsquo;Kani (sound) K\u016bola (life-giving) <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System Music Festival&rsquo; was chosen to highlight the many benefits music brings to our lives, most particularly mental health benefits,&rdquo; said <strong>Jon Magnussen<\/strong>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> associate professor of music and chair of the humanities division. &ldquo;This is the first time ever that our music programs from around the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System are uniting to share the waiwai (wealth) of music opportunities offered by our campuses and in our communities. The festival will offer a wide variety of in-person and online activities and events to highlight some key learning opportunities that <span aria-label=\"kamaaina\">kama&#699;&#257;ina<\/span> and malihini (foreigner) will find life-giving and meaningful.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>During the Songwriters\u2019 Open Mic, tomorrow\u2019s artists will perform new originals in public for the first time. Kani K\u016bola culminates with an evening concert showcasing the power of music creation in the community.
