The <a href=\"http:\/\/kccscoop.blogspot.com\/2013\/03\/kauai-literature-festival-on-april-12th.html\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Literature Festival<\/a> is a wonderful opportunity to hear from established <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> writers.<\/p>\n<h2>Panel members<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lisa Linn Kanae<\/strong>, author of <em>Sista Tongue<\/em>, a memoir\/essay that weaves the social history of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Creole English with personal experience, and <em>Islands Linked by Ocean<\/em> a collection of short stories. Her work has also been published in <em>&#332;iwi: A Native Hawaiian Journal<\/em>, Hybolics, Tinfish, <em><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Pacific Review<\/em> and Bamboo Ridge Publications. She currently teaches composition and literature at <a href=\"http:\/\/kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/page\/home\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kealoha<\/strong>, the first poet laureate of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. As an internationally acclaimed poet and storyteller, he has preformed throughout the world&#8212;from the White House to the <span aria-label=\"Iolani\">&#699;Iolani<\/span> Palace, from Brazil to Switzerland. He is the first poet in <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span>&#8217;s history to perform at a gubernatorial inauguration, and was selected as a master artist for a National Endowment for the Arts program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Juliet S. Kono<\/strong>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a> professor, recently published her first novel, <em>Anshu: Dark Sorrow<\/em>. Based on historical events, <em>Anshu<\/em> is a tale of passion and human triumph in the face of extraordinary adversity, spanning the cane fields of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the devastation in Hiroshima. She is also the author of two books of poetry, <em>Hilo Rains<\/em> and <em>Tsunami Years<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mark Panek<\/strong> is the author of <em>Big Happiness: The Life and Death of a Modern Hawaiian Warrior<\/em>. It won the 2012 <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Book Publishers Association&#8217;s Ka Palapala <span aria-label=\"Pookela\">Po&#699;okela<\/span> Award for Excellence in Nonfiction. <em>Big Happiness<\/em> was a follow up to his first book, <em>Gaijin Yokozuna: A Biography of Chad Rowan<\/em>. His first novel, <em><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/em> will be released in March. Panek teaches a variety of highly interactive writing courses at the <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cathy Song&#8217;s<\/strong> books of poetry includes <em>Picture Bride<\/em>, winner of the Yale Younger Poets Prize, <em>Frameless Windows<\/em>, <em>Squares of Light<\/em>, <em>School Figures<\/em>, <em>The Land of Bliss<\/em> and <em>Cloud Moving Hands<\/em>. She is the recipient of many awards including the Frederich Bock Prize from <em>Poetry<\/em>, the Shelly Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America and the Pushcart prize.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, download the flyer or email James M.
