  {"id":155667,"date":"2022-02-21T07:45:34","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T17:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=155667"},"modified":"2022-12-27T12:09:55","modified_gmt":"2022-12-27T22:09:55","slug":"record-graduation-rates-at-uh-campuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2022\/02\/21\/record-graduation-rates-at-uh-campuses\/","title":{"rendered":"Record graduation rates at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses across the state"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/spring-2021-commencement-collage.png\" alt=\"4 graduates\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-141845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/spring-2021-commencement-collage.png 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/spring-2021-commencement-collage-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/spring-2021-commencement-collage-130x73.png 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> campuses across the state achieved record highs in important graduation and retention metrics for the academic year 2020&#8211;21, the first full academic year impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2022\/02\/17\/presidents-report-february-2022\/\">In his report to the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Board of Regents on February 17<\/a>, President David Lassner shared delta points from each of the 10 campuses that, &ldquo;give me a lot of hope.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Highlights from the four-year campuses<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-8-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"graduate holding diploma\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-141592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-8-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-8-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/west-oahu-spring-2021-commencement-8.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa<\/a> achieved the highest four-year graduation rate in history (39.7&#37;) for full-time first-time students as well as record two-year (30.9&#37;) and four-year (64&#37;) graduation rates for full-time transfer-in students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a> achieved its second-highest six-year graduation rate (42.7&#37;) for full-time first-time students. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo also serves many transfer students and achieved a record three-year (47.5&#37;) and four-year graduation rate (58.1&#37;) for full-time transfer students and its highest ever four-year rate (47.9&#37;) for part-time transfers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> set a new record in its four-year graduation rate (23&#37;) for full-time first-time students. The campus has a very high percentage of incoming transfer students, and retention of incoming full-time transfers from first to second year matched the prior year. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> had a high six-year graduation rate for full-time transfers (66.5&#37;) and the four-year rate held steady.<\/p>\n<h2>Highlights from <abbr>UH<\/abbr>\u2019s seven community colleges<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hawaii-spring-2021-commencement-4-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"graduate in his car\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-141760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hawaii-spring-2021-commencement-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hawaii-spring-2021-commencement-4-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hawaii-spring-2021-commencement-4.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr><\/a> achieved its highest three-year graduation rates for both full-time (36.3&#37;) and part-time (10.4&#37;) first-time freshmen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/\">Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> had its highest first-year retention for both full-time and part-time freshmen and a record four-year graduation rate (37.8&#37;) for full-time students, as well as two-year (22.9&#37;) and three-year (23.6&#37;) graduation rates for part-time students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> had its highest three-year full-time first-time graduation rate (25.8&#37;) and  record five-year rate (20&#37;) for part-time first-time students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> had its highest ever three-year full-time first-time graduation rate (32.4&#37;) and record four-year (19.3&#37;) and five-year (18.5&#37;) rates for part-time first-time students.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kauai-spring-2021-commencement-3-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"graduate\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-141901\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kauai-spring-2021-commencement-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kauai-spring-2021-commencement-3-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kauai-spring-2021-commencement-3.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> had record level graduation rates for first-year (2.2&#37;), second-year (13.6&#37;) and third-year (28.7&#37;) full-time first-time students and for many of its part-time and transfer students as well. Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> also set record first-year retention rates with the high school class of 2020 as well for its incoming transfer students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/maui.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College<\/a> set record one-year (2.5&#37;) and three-year (29.2&#37;) graduation rates for full-time first-time students as well as four-year and six-year rates for part-time students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> achieved its highest one-year (2.5&#37;) and two-year (10.4&#37;) full-time first-time students graduation rates and six-year rate for part-time first-timers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/leeward-spring-2021-commencement-4-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"graduate by car\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-141738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/leeward-spring-2021-commencement-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/leeward-spring-2021-commencement-4-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/leeward-spring-2021-commencement-4.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lassner said the one-year graduation rates over 2&#37; at Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College and Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> are likely the result of <abbr>UH<\/abbr>\u2019s active <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/dualcredit\/early-college\/\">Early College<\/a> programs in those regions.
