In celebration of Mahina ʻ\u014clelo Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> (Hawaiian Language Month), Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani<\/span><\/a> College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> will host a webinar to share knowledge about the college\u2019s namesake, Princess Ruth Keanolani Kan\u0101hoahoa Keʻelikōlani<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Established in 1997, Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani<\/span> was named in honor of the high chiefess known for her strong advocacy of Hawaiian language and culture. She refused to speak English, practice Christianity, and held fast to traditional Hawaiian practices. Her example and legacy are inspirational to people who now strive to learn and use ʻ\u014dlelo Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, the state\u2019s native tongue.<\/p>\n

The online event, Ke Aliʻi<\/span> Wahine Kan\u0101hoahoa Keʻelikōlani<\/span> is free and open to the public, and will be held on February 9 at noon.<\/p>\n
