She refused to speak English, practice Christianity, and held fast to traditional Hawaiian practices. Her example and legacy are inspirational to people who now strive to learn and use &#699;\u014dlelo <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, the state\u2019s native tongue.<\/p>\n<p>The online event, Ke <span aria-label=\"Alii\">Ali&#699;i<\/span> Wahine Kan\u0101hoahoa <span aria-label=\"Keelikolani\">Ke&#699;elik&#333;lani<\/span> is free and open to the public, and will be held on February 9 at noon.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.zoom.us\/j\/97428528339?pwd=V0tFakJLK2J4aEUyUndSeXZsNE5EZz09#success\">Zoom link<\/a>. Passcode is ukana2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Lito Arkangel<\/strong>, a lecturer of Hawaiian studies and music at the college, will hone in on the princess\u2019 life, and her notoriety as a formidable presence in nineteenth-century <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. Arkangel is also an instructor of ethnobotany who serves as a mea m\u0101lama k\u012bh\u0101pai &#699;o Ululaum\u0101hie (caretaker of the gardens named Ululaum\u0101hie) at Hale\u2018\u014dlelo, home of the college.<\/p>\n<h2>He Ukana K\u0101 K\u012blauea webinar series<\/h2>\n<p>The upcoming webinar event is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/09\/21\/retrace-footsteps-of-hawaii-alii\/\">He Ukana K\u0101 K\u012blauea webinar series<\/a> presented by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/hawaiipapaokeao\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Papa O Ke Ao<\/a>, a group comprised of representatives from each of the 10 <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> campuses throughout the state and tasked by <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong> to create activities in support of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> being a leader in Indigenous education.
