Three of <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s federally-funded National Resource Centers (East Asia, Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands Studies) offer 2022&#8211;23 Academic Year and\/or summer 2022 Foreign Language and Area Studies (<abbr>FLAS<\/abbr>) Fellowships that include full tuition and stipend. All majors are welcome, and students must enroll in language and area studies courses each semester that they are <abbr>FLAS<\/abbr> recipients to receive the funding.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_153229\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-153229\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/manoa-flas-fellowship-seng-khang-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"person sitting near a window and smiling\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-153229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/manoa-flas-fellowship-seng-khang-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/manoa-flas-fellowship-seng-khang-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/manoa-flas-fellowship-seng-khang.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-153229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Seng Khang is a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <abbr>MA<\/abbr> in applied archaeology student and received a <abbr>FLAS<\/abbr> fellowship in Thai.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Eligibility and fellowship information<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><abbr>FLAS<\/abbr> awards are subject to funding by the U.S. Department of Education.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be full-time, classified students at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa or in the process of applying to a degree-granting undergraduate or graduate program at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa at the time of application.<\/li>\n<li><abbr>FLAS<\/abbr> recipients must be full-time, classified, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students in residence at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa to receive the fellowship.<\/li>\n<li>East-West Center Degree Fellows are not eligible for academic year <abbr>FLAS<\/abbr>, but are eligible for summer <abbr>FLAS<\/abbr>.<\/li>\n<li>Graduate students holding an academic year <abbr>FLAS<\/abbr> are not eligible to hold a concurrent graduate assistantship\/teaching assistantship\/research assistantship position.<\/li>\n<li>Fellowships are awarded for one academic year and\/or one summer at a time, and recipients may apply again for continued funding for up to two years of the fellowship.<\/li>\n<li>Fieldwork\/Research: <abbr>FLAS<\/abbr> Fellowships are not a stipend for research or fieldwork. Check with your academic department for possible research\/fieldwork funding opportunities from other sources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_153289\"
