Leeward Community College<\/a> Assistant Professor Petersen Gross<\/strong> has been named to a new national council of CompTIA<\/abbr><\/a>, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT<\/abbr>) industry and workforce. The nascent CompTIA<\/abbr> National Career and Technical Education (CTE<\/abbr>) Advisory Council includes representatives from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n

“We strongly believe that CTE<\/abbr> will play a critical role in our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has devastated household finances and changed educational plans for many families,” Angel L. Piñeiro Jr., CompTIA<\/abbr> vice president, said in a statement. “With the help of an elite group of educators and other leaders we intend to raise national awareness of CTE<\/abbr> as a creator of opportunities for careers that will provide a better way of life for multiple generations to come and to do so in a way that addresses digital inequity head-on.”<\/p>\n

In January 2021, U.S. employers advertised more than 232,000 job openings for core IT<\/abbr> positions, according to a CompTIA<\/abbr> release. These openings occurred in virtually every industry sector and included positions in software and application development, IT<\/abbr> support, systems engineering and architecture and IT<\/abbr> project management.<\/p>\n

Garret Yoshimi<\/strong>, University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> vice president for IT<\/abbr> and chief information officer, applauded Gross\u2019 appointment to the CompTIA<\/abbr> National CTE<\/abbr> Advisory Council.<\/p>\n
