Agriculture is one of three key growth sectors that are the focus of the C3T workforce development grant awarded to the UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This is one in a series of articles featured in “The Sky Is Not the Limit,”<\/a> a special tabloid produced for the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Innovation Initiative<\/a> by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition to creating thousands of jobs, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Innovation Initiative (HI²) is also expected to develop the workers to fill many of the new positions, through UH<\/abbr>’s seven community colleges.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Department of Labor awarded a $24.6 million grant in 2011—the largest of its kind in the nation—to the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Colleges<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The workforce development grant, known as C3T<\/a>, targets three key growth sectors that are aligned with important UH<\/abbr> research: agriculture, health and sustainable energy. The grant will help the community colleges to update the skills of workers. Several UH<\/abbr> community colleges received a $12.7 million grant as part of the second round of funding in 2012.<\/p>\n
