The panelists included <strong>Greg Chun<\/strong>, executive director of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/maunakea\/\">Center for Maunakea Stewardship<\/a>, <strong>Doug Simons<\/strong>, director at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifa.hawaii.edu\/\">Institute for Astronomy<\/a> and Jim Hayes from Planning Solutions Inc., the land-use firm contracted by <abbr>UH<\/abbr> to help develop the new master plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can focus on where we share common values, common beliefs, we can have better conversations,\u201d said Chun at the close of the forum. \u201cWhether that leads to better solutions, that remains to be seen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new plan will guide land-use decisions on <abbr>UH<\/abbr>-managed Maunakea lands and serve as a framework for aligning land-use decisions, management actions and educational programs. The existing master plan was adopted in 2000 with an intended 20-year lifespan.<\/p>\n<p>All comments,feedback and forum questions will be taken into consideration as the draft is amended before going to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Board of Regents for review and possible further changes.
