Ching Athletics Complex<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Foundation<\/a> raised $100.2 million from more than 19,000 donors in fiscal year 2021, funds that directly benefit students, faculty and research at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr>\u2019s 10 campuses.<\/p>\n<p>From training doctors in innovative ways for the long-term health of our community, to retrofitting the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in time for the first football game to be played under the lights at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa, to helping more low-income and first-generation students enroll and succeed in college, transformational donors to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation have impacted lives across the state.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/windward-spring-2021-commencement-5-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"graduate in a truck\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-141782\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/windward-spring-2021-commencement-5-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/windward-spring-2021-commencement-5-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/windward-spring-2021-commencement-5.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The generosity of our alumni and donors during such a challenging year is inspiring,&rdquo; said <strong>Tim Dolan<\/strong>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> vice president of advancement and <abbr title=\"chief executive officer\">CEO<\/abbr> of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation. &ldquo;Mahalo to all the donors, alumni, faculty, staff and students who gave to support their university and the work being done to strengthen <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> as it works to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Students were the largest beneficiary group of giving, with $32.3 million going directly to student aid, followed by faculty and academic support with $28.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The resilience demonstrated by our students, faculty and staff over the past year and a half has been amazing, and this generous support from donors underscores the community\u2019s appreciation of the critical importance of the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and their recognition of our effectiveness as one of the nation\u2019s great public higher education systems,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;Their gifts help our faculty and students address the challenges and opportunities facing <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the world, as we build a more thriving, healthy and sustainable future for our islands. We are forever grateful to everyone who has supported <abbr>UH<\/abbr>, especially now.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The $100.2 million raised exceeded the fiscal year goal of $80 million by 25&#37;, while the number of gifts (24,514) grew from the previous fiscal year by 16&#37; and the number of donors increased by 10&#37; to 19,141.<\/p>\n<p>The areas that benefited from giving to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation in <abbr>FY<\/abbr> 2021 included:<\/p>\n<h2>Healthcare<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_148659\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148659\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-jabsom-gnrc-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"J A B S O M student\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-148659\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-jabsom-gnrc-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-jabsom-gnrc-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-jabsom-gnrc.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-148659\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John A. Burns School of Medicine students<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/hmsa-5m-donation-pioneering-program-improve-future-doctors\">$5 million from the <abbr title=\"Hawaii Medical Service Association\">HMSA<\/abbr> Foundation<\/a> to establish the Learning Innovations Endowment to support the John A. Burns School of Medicine\u2019s Learning Community program.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/1m-gift-hmsa-foundation-expands-interprofessional-education-uh\">$1 million from the <abbr>HMSA<\/abbr> Foundation<\/a> to support the statewide expansion of Interprofessional Education (<abbr>IPE<\/abbr>) at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> and to establish the endowed <abbr>HMSA<\/abbr> Distinguished Professorship in <abbr>IPE<\/abbr> to provide the leadership, expertise and research needed to implement and advance the <abbr>HIPE<\/abbr> program. Anchored by the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (formerly School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene) Translational Health Science Simulation Center (<abbr>THSSC<\/abbr>), the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Interprofessional Education (<abbr>HIPE<\/abbr>) program prepares <abbr>UH<\/abbr> health sciences students for team-based practice to improve health care quality and value in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/queens-health-systems-invests-1-million-university-hawaii-manoas-school-nursing-dental-hygiene\">$1 million from The Queen\u2019s Health Systems<\/a> to fund an endowed professorship at the Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (formerly School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/tackling-hawaiis-doctor-shortage-weinmans-donate-156m\">$1.56 million from Barry and Virginia Weinman<\/a> to fund 10 full-tuition scholarships at <abbr title=\"John A. Burns School of Medicine\">JABSOM<\/abbr>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/11m-donation-bolsters-nursing-community-partnerships\">$1.1 million to the Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing<\/a> from retired Col. Stephanie A. Marshall, the school\u2019s inaugural director for community partnerships, and her husband, retired Col. Dr. Charles F. Miller, to fund the Cols. Stephanie Marshall &#38; Charles Miller Endowed Director of Community Partnerships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Community development<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/23m-grant-enables-more-windward-oahu-students-enroll-and-succeed-college\">$2.3 million from the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation<\/a> to help more low-income and first-generation Windward <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> middle and high school students enroll and succeed in college.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/07\/11\/culinary-institute-of-the-pacific-1m-new-gifts\/\">$1.1 million from King\u2019s Hawaiian and other foundations<\/a> to the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head to support Phase 2 construction and staffing of the advanced, one-of-a-kind culinary campus, offering hands-on experiential learning, food innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>$1 million from an anonymous donor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/1m-anonymous-donation-supports-hawaii-cc-students-faculty\">to fund the A Hua Maila Endowed Scholarship<\/a> for full- and part-time students in any area of study at <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College and the E <span aria-label=\"Huakai\">Huaka&#699;i<\/span> Professional Development Endowment to support professional development for college faculty, staff and student leaders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Agriculture<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/american-agcredits-2-million-gift-grows-hawaiis-farmers\">$2 million from American AgCredit<\/a> to the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources to support GoFarm <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, one of the largest and most successful beginning farmer development programs in the U.S.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Economy<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/1-point-2m-uhero-covid-19-economic-recovery-research\">$1.2 million from a hui of local foundations<\/a> to support the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Economic Research Organization, or <abbr>UHERO<\/abbr>, in the College of Social Sciences to fund economic research and help <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> on its path to economic recovery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Athletics<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_148668\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148668\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-athletics-ching-field-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"U H Manoa football field\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-148668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-athletics-ching-field-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-athletics-ching-field-2-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manoa-athletics-ching-field-2.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-148668\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Clarence T. C. Ching Foundation<\/a> to help fund the upgrade of The Clarence T. C. Ching Athletics Complex, a new home field for the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Warrior football team.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/bank-hawaii-steps-up\">$5 million, 10-year sponsorship from Bank of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> that renamed the Stan Sheriff Center as SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center and $100,000 from Bank of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Foundation for an endowment scholarship fund in the name of Stan Sheriff to help student-athletes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Where the money goes<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/give\">Donors choose<\/a> where they want their gifts to go.
